I am a consultant psychiatrist who has worked with Andrea in very busy inpatient public psychiatry in SE Melbourne. We had people who were psychotic, suicidal, regressed and unreachable in many ways. I was so grateful for Andrea's invaluable help with these severely distressed patients. She could connect to them through her sensitive listening and then engage with them in whatever artistic expression they were ready for. This had a knock on effect, the patients were able to shift to a more capable way of being where they could articulate in words what they were feeling and what they needed. Andrea is hands down one of the most amazing Art Therapists I have come across. I have been privileged to attend her art therapy many times and the way she connects with her audience is just magical. I have worked along side Dre and witness the magic that she gives to the residents in both group and one on one sessions. Dre has walked the community in working through the “masks” where each resident goes through a process of creating their own mask from scratch and then uses the mask to explore different platforms - how the resident sees themselves from the outside in. Dre has worked one on one with our residents, working through personal struggles where the residents use the space to explore and challenge themselves to be able to work through past trauma and let go of grief.
